Company Profile

The company KETEK is an acknowledged world leader in the development and production of advanced silicon radiation detectors. KETEK was managed from 1989 - 2007 by its owner and founder Dr. Josef Kemmer a world-famous scientist in the fields of semiconductor detector concepts and technology. Since summer 2007 the company is managed by Dr. Josef Kemmer´s daughter Silvia Wallner and Dr. Reinhard Fojt.

Dr. Kemmer holds over 70 patents and patent applications and contributed to over 160 publications. He developed and introduced the planar process for high purity silicon, which is used now world wide for the fabrication of high quality silicon radiation detectors. KETEK has made a very remarkable growth in the last years – well prepared for the future innovation and production challenges.

In 2004 KETEK was honoured with the innovation award by the consortium of Bavarian Volksbanken and Raiffeisenbanken for the innovative products and technology. The technological leadership of KETEK was demonstrated once again in 2005 by the development and introduction of the selective silicon epitaxy to the fabrication of next generations of highest quality advanced radiation detectors like silicon drift detectors (SDD).

History:

1971-
1982:

Development of the planar technology for the fabrication of silicon radiation detectors by Dr. Josef Kemmer at the Technical University of Munich (TUM).
1983: Fabrication of the first SDDs by Dr. Josef Kemmer at the TUM utilizing the planar process. The detector principle was proposed by Emilio Gatti from Politecnico di Milano and Pavel Rehak from Brookhaven National Laboratory.
1989: Formation of KETEK GmbH by Dr. Josef Kemmer.
1989-
2002:

Main business of KETEK: Technology transfer to industry and to research institutes. Contribution to some of the worlds most advanced detector projects in high energy physics and space research.
1995:

Delivery of the first generation of commercial SDD-detector modules (see: x-ray detectors). Introduction of the novel SDD to the XRF and EDX market within a strong co-operation of KETEK, the MPI and Roentec.

1999-
2002:

Development of monolithic and discrete multi-channel SDD-detectors (see: x-ray spectrometers).
2002: Presentation of the 3rd generation of SDDs with an energy resolution< 128 eV @ Mn Kα (5.9 keV).
2002-2003: Initiation of an electronic product line with the KETEK Analogue X-ray Acquisition System (AXAS) (see: x-ray spectrometers) and Analogue Digital Converter / Multi Channel Analyzer ADC/MCA (AXAS MCA )
2003: Introduction of the KETEK Analogue Digital Converter / Multi Channel Analyzer ADC/MCA (AXAS MCA ) (see: x-ray spectrometers).
2004: Innovation award of the consortium of Bavarian Volksbanken and Raiffeisenbanken for KETEK technology and products. KETEK was nominated "Bavarian Medium-sized Enterprise of the Year 2004".
2005: Introduction of VITUS, the 4th generation of SDDs with pulsed reset and external first FET. Development and introduction of the KETEK selective silicon epitaxy for fabrication of advanced radiation detectors (see: publications)
2006: Launch of the world´s first Analytical Drift Detector (ADD) integrated into Oxford Instruments´ new INCAx-act. The ADD ist based on the superior Vitus technology and performs significantly better at low energies than any other SDD sensor.
2007: Market lauch of the 5th generation of SDDs with best analytical performance with P/B up to 20000. Delivery of the 6000st SDD. Market launch of the KETEK Digital X-ray Acquisition System (DIXAS) available for all VITUS SDD modules (see: x-ray spectrometers).
2007: New management Dr. Reinhard Fojt and Silvia Wallner, Dr. Josef Kemmer passed away on October 16th after a long fight against cancer. The company shares remain in his family.
